The Whip Enthusiasts

DFW Whip Weekend III - Oct 5th & 6th 2002 - Grand Prairie, TX USA

The Dallas / Ft. Worth practice group hosted another weekend of whip cracking fun and socializing. There was friendly contests, lots of technique tips and whip making pointers.

The schedule was fairly loose and flexible with the event being more social and less structured.

Friday meet 'n greet - Lou Gaines, Bobby Carter, Marc and Liz, Sebastian, and Holly

Saturday was fun and friends with general whip cracking and sharing starting around 10:30-11:00am (prior breakfast at
Denny's). Lunch on Saturday was our Stone Soup pot luck, followed by more whip cracking and lots of time to practice the accuracy challenges. Rusty Dewitt cooked up a batch of his famous Texas Chili as the base of our 'Stone Soup'. If you haven't had a bowl of this culinary gem, you don't know what chili is supposed to taste like. Paired with a chunk of Deena's perfect cheesy corn bread made for a hearty lunch well suited to a full day of whip cracking practice. Rusty's father, Josh DeWitt provided the target stands and whip trees we used over the weekend. Josh also showed off some beautiful wood handles for existing nylon cow whips. You can find more of Josh's work at his web site JD's Home page . Josh's whip trees and target stands were keenly eyed during Saturday practice and quickly bought up after competition on Sunday.

The Dutch diner on Saturday night at a near by Saltgrass Steakhouse suffered some scheduling problems. We all managed to eat at the same table, just not at the same time.

Sunday was competition day followed by awards and special thanks. Of course all of this is dependant on Mother Nature and the weather. The rain chased us off early and the Technical Skill competition was uncompleted. For the whip competitions, there were several categories of target accuracy, with short and long whips.

Below is the score chart of the final standings. The background shading denotes medal ranking.
